AZ Containers is your No.1 source to purchase or rent Storage Containers.

Selecting your Storage Container.

Storage containers are normally manufactured from high tensile rust inhibiting corten steel, which increases life span. Having a CSC Plate they can be used for storage/shipping containers. They come in a wide variety of sizes and types 40’, 20’, 10’ and 8’ x 8’6” standard height, or 9’6”, single or double ended doors. AZ  Containers in Phoenix and Flagstaff, AZ  have many of these units available in their yards.

Second-hand or Used Storage Containers.

The previous use of the storage container will determine the condition. They should be offered in wind and watertight condition, and be structurally sound. Always ask the age and condition of the container. If viewing before purchase, pay particular attention to the roof and doors, known weak areas.

The majority are of standard 8’6” height and much sought after. The 40’s, can also be 9’6” high. A conventional shipping container does not have a lock box. Ask your supplier about fitting one, which will considerably improve security. Do not attempt to use a container sold as a Storage Unit for Shipping Purposes as this can be a very expensive mistake.

Always discuss the specific use for your container(s), as practical advice may identify points you have not considered.

Condensation.

When storing soft furnishings, paper etc, condensation may occur, ask your sales agent at AZ Containers, to learn more about condensation prevention and dehumidifiers. There are many methods of preventing Condensation in storage containers from simple desiccants , insulation kits ,to expensive de-humidifiers.

Container Deliveries.

All AZ Container sales people can arrange delivery with or without a crane assisted vehicle, but always discuss access with them. Nowadays with the Google Earth facility, it is so simple to discuss a potential problem over the phone and prevent a wasted journey.

Characteristics and fitness for container transport. ELECTRONICS

Examples of electronic/electrical appliances are

• household appliances (“white goods”)

• home entertainment equipment (“brown goods”)

• office equipment/communications equipment

• computers/computer peripherals, photocopiers, air conditioners

• precision mechanical/optical equipment (e.g. microscopes, cameras, enlargers)

Such appliances are manufactured and transported and stored all over the world. Electronic/electrical appliances contain no water; however, the packaging material made from corrugated board or wood having water content, the recommended upper limits for which should be complied with. These are accordingly goods which require particular humidity/moisture and possibly ventilation conditions. Electronic/electrical appliances are goods which are at risk of corrosion and tend to suffer corrosion at relative humidities of 40%. In order to ensure that this hazard threshold is not exceeded, the packaging for the appliances must be container dry.

Such goods are stored in standard containers, subject to compliance with limits for water content of packaging and container floor.

Undamaged, dry containers must be used for storage.

RISK OF THEFT.

Electronic/electrical appliances are extremely valuable, consumer-oriented goods which are consequently at considerable risk of theft. As a result, such equipment are not only of interest to opportunist thieves, but are increasingly attracting local vandalism. It is not unusual for entire container loads to be taken.

Product names and appliance details printed on packaging increase opportunist theft and such details should accordingly remain neutral or covered and use a personal manifest with numbers, so only you are aware of the storage contents.

In the case of theft, packaging units are often cleverly manipulated. Before goods are packed into the container, it should therefore be checked that the packaging is still in its original state. Providing that circumstances permit, the containers should be stowed with the doors of adjacent containers facing towards each other.

Modified Containers the way you want.

Modified containers are very popular and an excellent choice. Most mobile storage companies offer modified units and will work with you on the best container for your needs. Although painting containers is always a good idea some modifications have negative aspects. Popular “roll up doors” for example are not as secure and do not last as long as the standard Cargo door. Another fact to think about is that standard shipping containers are manufactured to create a weather proof 100% seal. If you modify the container in certain ways you may be compromising the inherent advantages associated with a water tight sealed container. Linked below is a list of common modifications to think about. When you speak to our slew manager, be very clear and specific about your modifications needs and expectations. https://azcontainers.com/modifications

Advantages associated with newer “one trip” containers.

Factory Paint.

These containers are manufactured, and painted in a controlled environment using multiple layer paint application. There are advantages of this process over the typical container refurbishment. These units are not old containers made to look newer. They are exactly what they look like, new containers. Refurbished containers can have rust issues under the paint. There are often rusty deteriorated steel containers with the rust simply painted over. Chances are you will also receive a container that was sprayed outdoors with water based paint which will only last a shorter amount of time then the factory paint. Not all refurbished units are bad containers. If the rust is ground off and the container is primered where the steel is exposed, you will not have issues with your refurbished container. Selecting a new container will take the guess work out of this completely.

No shipping label.

These containers are not painted bright colors with a shipping label company advertisement on them. They are typically solid one color and do not need to be repainted.

No let down and no surprises.

These containers are considered “like new” and you will not be surprised or have to worry about the condition your container(s) will be when they arrive at your location.

A few questions to first ask yourself before deciding to rent or buy a container…

How long do you plan on needing the container(s)? – This is a very important question because all major container rental companies have customers who rent containers for years and then do not understand why they do not own the container(s). Rental rates are structured as such that the rent does not apply towards the purchase of the container. Rental rates are very competitive and companies often lose money on delivery and pickup charges with the intention of making up for this loss in rental fees. The bottom line is that if you need the container for a few years or permanently you will be much better off purchasing a container.

Is your location adequate to host your container? – This is a very important question because there are requirements involved.

  1. Delivery space: Proper delivery space is required in order for the delivery of the container to be possible. As a general rule of thumb you will need twice the length of the container plus 10 feet in a straight line to deliver the container with a standard tilt bed “roll off” style truck bed or trailer. Adequate clearance and width is also required but the amount of length is typically the issue that tends to be a problem at delivery. It is very common for people to assume that because they have 40 ft of space they can accommodate a 40ft container.

b) Restrictions: Certain sub developments, cities and counties have restrictions against containers. It is normally up to you to research this fact. Most container companies cover multiple cities and areas and you cannot expect them to keep track of all municipal restrictions in multiple areas.

c) Location: The container needs to be in a good location. Is the location level? If not the doors may not function properly. If you plan to put your container in a location that is not level be prepared at delivery with wood blocks to assist the delivery driver in leveling the container. Adequate drainage? The areas should also have adequate drainage to avoid sinking.

What type of container condition are you expecting? In the container market there are good deals and there are really bad deals and everything in between. Good deals will most likely be a great container for a good price. If you come across a deal that is “too good to be true”, like in most other cases, it probably is. Make sure you are very clear with the company you choose; what you are expecting condition wise, what you plan to use the container for, and what you are expecting to pay total including tax and delivery. Container Alliance has done the work to choose trustworthy companies that are interested in your expectations, as a consumer it is your responsibility to tell them what you expect and what your needs are so the proper container can be selected for you. It is important to allow the experts to assist you in your purchase process.

Storage containers have become a very popular means of providing extra space, outbuildings, short term and long term storage solutions.

Containers are now available in all major metropolitan areas throughout the nation. An alliance has formed a network of small businesses that are familiar with your needs and agree to adopt and follow the Container Alliance Code of Ethics. This guide is designed to help you become familiar with industry terminology, container uses, common questions and problems.

This sale guide serves to help you get informed about buying a shipping / mobile storage container.

The first decision is to decide between renting or purchasing the container(s). If you plan on needing the container for an extremely long term or permanently, it is probably better to purchase rather then rent the container.  Before you make your purchase you should think about and research any municipal rules against containers in your area, in this case we would recommend that you contact your local city or county to determine if any local ordinances against containers exist. If you are unsure, or need more info or help with your municipality please contact the National Portable Storage Association.

If you plan to make a container purchase, you have many options. Containers are available in variable sizes and types. The most common is a dry freight container with a cargo door on one end. The dry storage containers or “dry vans” are very prevalent around the globe with millions in circulation. By far the most common is 20′ storage or shipping containers and 40′ Storage or shipping containers. You have the option of purchasing dry, insulated, refrigerated or modified containers, in various sizes. Availability varies by location across the county, but is general it will be easiest to find 20′ and 40′ containers. Please keep in mind that any time you stray from the common sizes and types you will pay much more and increase the risk of receiving a container in substandard condition.

How to Insulate a Storage Container from AZ CONTAINERS.

Insulate a cargo container with a ceramic paint additive.

Cargo containers are large steel boxes that are loaded onto shipping freighters and trains. They are designed to be easily stacked on top of one another, as well as hold large amounts of weight. Though cargo containers are intended for shipping, they are sometimes used as ad-hoc garages or home storage spaces. No matter the intended use of a cargo container, they can have their walls insulated to keep in either warmth or cold. Standard fiberglass insulation doesn?t hold up well to the sometimes harsh environment cargo containers withstand. Instead, a coat of insulating paint can be added to the container?s interior.

Instructions

        1. Add the insulating additive to a gallon of paint in the ratio recommended by your particular additive?s instructions.

        2. Mix the paint and the additive with the paint stirrer. Make sure that this is done thoroughly, so that there are no clumps of additive in the paint, and it appears entirely smooth. Make any paint insulate Save 20% on your utility bills

        3. Paint the inside walls of the cargo container with the paint brush or spray. Make sure the cargo container?s doors are wide open when you are doing this. If you do not have adequate ventilation, you could become ill from the paint?s fumes.

        4. Allow the paint to dry overnight.
