Prague-based firm has managed to combine two of our favorite things: shipping containers and wanderlust. The ContainHotel is a small boutique hotel made out of three repurposed shipping containers that can be easily disassembled and transported to different locations.

The eco-hotel is made out of three large shipping containers, but has a total of five rooms that can accommodate up to 13 guests at a time. A horizontal row of four rooms was built into a 40-foot high cube container, which is supported by two perpendicular 20-foot containers on the bottom level. The ground level containers house the sanitary facilities, a technical room, a storeroom on one end and a four-bed guest room on the other.

Although compact, the rooms are open and airy, with minimal, but elegant features on the interior. Large windows provide tons of natural light for all of the rooms. The interiors are clad in birch plywood, which was also used for the custom-made furniture. All of the rooms open up to an elongated shared balcony that provides great views of the surrounding nature.

Currently located in in Treboutice, Czech Republic, the hotel was designed to be a self-sufficient, eco-friendly hotel that can be easily demounted and transported to multiple locations. The structure was built on railroad sleepers to leave minimal footprint no matter where it is assembled. The building is connected to a local electric power source and has an integrated water reservoir that supplies the showers and sinks, all installed with water saving taps. To save on heating and cooling, the hotel awnings, which were made of reclaimed wood planks from a local sawmill, insulate the roof and provide shade in the summer months.

The Detroit Free Press says FIRST CONTAINER is raising money to build first a storage container community center, then a boutique hotel, at Eastern Market downtown. The project is called the Collision Works Story Box. Project leader, a former New York ad executive who moved to Detroit in 2011, says the prototype community center project will place two empty shipping containers near Shed 5 at Russell Street.

Eastern Market was chosen for several reasons. It’s been around since 1891 and is the longest continually running farmers market in the U.S., with one of the largest permanent open-air market structures. People from all walks of life go to Eastern Market. It’s a gathering place for artists, activists, and thinkers. Coordinators want to connect fresh food, local agriculture, art, and community. They’re hoping to have the prototype community center ready by May 19, Eastern Market’s Flower Day.

A real estate business and project manager from Guimar?es, Portugal has put together this clever recycled multiple use shipping container project at his family?s country estate ? Quinta da Cancela 1720.

Five years ago, he took over the management of Estate, and undertook a number of initiatives that included the restoration of a 1720?s farmhouse, the further development of their rural tourism project and of course producing wine. It soon became evident that the Estate would need more storage, so an idea that had incubated for Arthur for over 10 years came to fruition.

His original idea was to construct a shipping container building that was to act as a storage warehouse. However the project evolved, and the building was to become a multifunctional facility; that would support activities by their swimming pool, to act as an studio for rent, to have a semi-industrial kitchen, and to serve as a dinner-party lounge for up to 40-50 people.

Constructed of 2 x 40 ft High Cube shipping container and 2 half?s of a 40 ft High Cube shipping container this container project came together with the use of local subcontractors, who?

? Poured the concrete foundations

? Placed the containers on site

? Cut up and welding in the frame for windows and the roof

? Waterproofed the roof

? Installed the Aluminum Windows.

? Included with in the design was the use of?

? Double Glass Large windows

? 10 sheets of glass for the windows that were reclaimed from a measurement error on another construction site

? Roof insulation and finishing done with expanded clay balls

? Site placement in perennial tree-shaded area meaning that winter sun ?soaks up? and summer

? It took Arthur just seven days to construct this 90m2 building, with an estimated time line of?

? 1 day for foundation carpentry and iron;

? ? day for pouring concrete

? ? day for placement of containers

? 1 day for cutting windows and welding roof edges

? 1 day for waterproofing membrane on roof

? 1 day for windows placement.

? ? day to lay the geotextile layer, concrete slabs surrounding the roof and spreading the expanded clay.
